HHS Students started Community Emergency Response Training tonight. Students learned how to shut off utilities and put out small fires.
First graders with Miss Fegan were cheering each other on as they played a counting game in MTSS math. The first one to 25 wins! #growinglearners
Mrs. Vinduska's psychology class attended "Behavior Mania" at McPherson University. Students participated in six different psychology related activities with McPherson University professors and students. A class favorite was a session titled "The Pendulum Knows" during which students used the power of their minds to swing a pendulum over a target. Afterwards, the students learned the psychology behind the swinging pendulum.
The Freshman and Sophomore girls trip to Salina tomorrow has been cancelled due to weather. We will try to re-schedule at a later date.
Students Attend National Fall Leadership Conference. Thirteen FBLA members from Herington High School attended the National Fall Leadership Conference in Chicago, Illinois on November 1-3. On this trip, the students attended interactive sessions such as Lead Like a Zebra and Growing Your Potential, which emphasized the importance of having confidence and acting with integrity. The students also got to explore Chicago. They visited Navy Pier, Millennium Park, and the Magnificent Mile. They also tried the famous deep dish pizza.

The Anna Garcia mystery continues in Principles of Biomedical Science. After studying diabetes last week, students are studying Anna’s stomach contents to see if she was following a healthy diabetic diet.
National Honor Society is hosting a canned food drive from now until November the 16th at the high school. Our goal is 600 cans.

Emilie Roe, daughter of Kenny and Tammie Roe, has been awarded Student of the Month
for October.
Emilie thinks she was selected because she works hard and is involved in many activities.
Throughout her high school years, Emilie has
participated in FFA, FBLA, HOSA, NHS, Band, Student Council, Volleyball, Basketball, Track, Swim Team, and Softball.
When asked, Mrs. Beye said, “Emilie was chosen because of her outstanding leadership skills, both on and off the volleyball court. She goes above and beyond to excel not only in the classroom but in all extracurricular activities she’s involved in.”

Health Science pathway students have been taking Certified Nursing Assistant classes this fall with their instructor Kathy Kershner. Students are: Lexi Schaffer, Kaylee Slater, Payten Schneider, Jacelynne Griffith, Emma Bigham, Draven Krueger, Makenna Davis and Grace Diekmann.
Mary Schroeder was a speaker for Anatomy and Physiology last week. The students are covering the skeletal system so she visited with them about the Radiology department at HMH and what to look for in x-rays.
Dance and cheer worked together over the weekend to learn a routine by choreographer Kennedy Trimble. Can’t wait for the girls to perform this for you!
At HMS, Ms. Leah's MTSS explores Braille books as part of sensory awareness. We are reading an autobiography about Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan.
During the month of October, the MS students collected change to support the Elsie Brooks Breast Cancer Foundation of Dickinson County. The school collected a total of $46.11. The classes competed against each other and the winning class, 8th grade, collected $24.89 followed by 6th grade with $11.33 and 7th grade $9.89.
Also, on October 31st, the students and staff celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness month with a Pink Out day. Students competed against each other to see who could wear the most pink. Our top three students were Avery Monnington with 44 pink items, Adrian Harris and Kahlen Mefford with 31 items. Written by Amanda Hawkins

Last week the Middle School students celebrated National Red Ribbon week with a variety of activities. Each day during the daily announcements facts relating to drugs, alcohol and the body were read to students. Monday and Wednesday students received a pencil and a tattoo promoting a drug and alcohol free life. Tuesday students wore sunglasses to shade out drugs and wore red on Thursday for the color of the national campaign. Also, during Mrs. Coup's language arts classes, students signed a banner to live a drug and alcohol free life! All events were sponsored by Student Council. Written by Amanda Hawkins
