Kansas Honor Scholars for Herington High School are Hailey Delisle, McKenzie Shippy, Emilie Roe and Lainey Monnington. These students are recognized for being the top 10% of the class. Congratulations on this honor.

Jeff Yalden will a guest speaker in our area on November 13, 2018 and will share his message and expertise concerning positive mental health and suicide prevention. He has toured in all 50 states and 49 countries to spread his inspirational message. He will be presenting to students at the Herington High School at 1:00pm and will also facilitate a parent and community member session at 6:30pm in Herington’s elementary gym. October 2nd (tomorrow night) the freshmen class will be providing a baked potato bar for $6.00, Frito chili pie for $3.00 and chili for $3.00 for the High School Volleyball game. concessions. We hope to see you there!

October Events

High School Volleyball Matches at Centre High School on October 4th. This is a Dual between Herington and Centre. Matches will begin at 6:00 pm. Order of play is JV, followed by back to back Varsity matches following KSHSAA Rules.

Tuesday, October 2nd games at Herington. Senior Night Recognition will be between the two varsity matches. Come support the Lady Railers on their home court.

Second graders build paper towers to learn about how properties of matter can be changed. Students first built a 12-inch tower using only note cards and paper clips. Then, they had to build a tower that was strong enough to support a textbook. Students learned that weak and flimsy paper could hold up a book if used correctly. They also learned how to problem solve and make adjustments to their hypothesis. #growinglearners

Come support the Railers tonight as they play Goessel at 7:00 pm. Crowning will be held at halftime.

HES Parents: Friendly reminder to wear maroon, orange, or Railer gear tomorrow! Also, we want to invite you to join us for the HES pep rally at 2:00 followed by parade viewing and our monthly assembly (which will probably start before our regularly scheduled 3:00 time).

The downtown parade for homecoming will be at about 2:30. At 2:15 there will be a special parade for the grade school at the school, then they will head downtown. The theme for floats is board games. There will be a dance on Saturday at 7:30, the day after the game.

Next Wednesday, October 3rd, after school we will be taking Fall Sports Pictures. Volleyball, Football and Cross Country for High School and Middle School will be taken. Bring order forms along with money if you are interested in pictures.

Mrs. Griffiths' MTSS group is working on technical reading and writing. Technical reading requires you to follow (sometimes complex) instructions, such as a manual used by a mechanic. So students were divided into groups of 2 or 3 students. The students were given instructions on how to construct a pirate out of Lego pieces. Students pictured were trying to find the necessary Lego pieces to construct their pirate. When the groups finish, they will create their own figure and write out instructions for someone else to follow.
