FCCLA attended District Elections/ Star Events in Abilene, Ks. We had one retiring as a District Officer and had two elected for the 2025-26 school year.  Congratulation to Cadence Sill-Sheppard and Koryn Alexander. We have three groups going on to state to compete in their Star Events. All will attend state in April. Way to go Railers….

The Railer archery team traveled to Clearwater on Saturday February 1st to compete in bullseye and 3D competition against 8 other schools from central Kansas. The Railers performed well, bringing home 6 individual medals from bullseye and 6 individual medals and 3 team trophies from 3D. The railers are continuing to get better every week. They had 24 new PR’s set on saturday. In the Bullseye competition, the following archers placed: Kimberly Schantz 1st place HS Girls 273 Koryn Alexander 2nd place HS Girls 272 Tyson Schlesener 2nd place MS Boys 268 Lillian Rucker 2nd place MS girls 262 Cecily Beck 2nd place ES Girls 204 Kennadie Minton 3rd place ES Girls 190 In the 3D competition, the following archers placed: Kimberly Schantz 1st place HS Girls 262 Audrey Kamena 2nd place HS Girls 259 Leland Urban 2nd place HS Boys 259 Tyson Schlesener 1st place MS Boys 271 Lillian Rucker 2nd place MS Girls 265 Treygan Meier 3rd place ES Girls 174 Along with the following team awards in 3D: 1st place HS team 1st place MS team 2nd place ES team Kimberly Shantz & Koryn Alexander were the #1 & #2 shooters (respectively) across all divisions in the bullseye competition and Tyson Schlesener was the #1 overall shooter in 3D across all divisions. Great Job Railers!!! The Railer Archery Team competes next at home on the 15th of February when they host The Railer Winter Bullseye Tournament.

Update: This weekend the HHS Speech and Drama Team traveled to Newton High School for their Tournament. This is the largest tournament we will travel to this year until the State Tournament, competing against 24 other schools representing every 'A' Division of KSHSAA.  Aidan T: 12th Place in US Extemporaneous Speaking Sierra W& Adrianna P: 11th Place in IDA Mallory A: 10th Place in US Extemporaneous Speaking Cheyenne P: 10th Place in Prose Adrianna P: 8th Place in Dramatic Interpretation We also had 3 events break to the Finals Round: Brie H: 7th Place Humorous Interpretation Cheyenne P& Raquel L: 6th Place IDA Mallory A: 2nd Place in Oration, qualifying for the state tournament Congratulations, Railers! HHS Forensics traveled to Newton high school today. This is the biggest meet they will attend this year. Our team brought a total of 14 events and 8 have broke into the semifinals! Congratulations to Aidan Thibodeau for receiving the prestigious Gore Scholarship at Wichita State University. This is a $64,000 scholarship given to deserving incoming freshman for the outstanding leadership and potential for success. Aidan was one of 3 to receive this award, from a nationwide application pool of over 500 applicants. We are so proud of you, Aidan!

HES Families: Be sure to plan on coming out to HES this evening (Friday, January 31st) to be a part of our 2025 Literacy Night - "Kids Can Change the World!" This will occur at HES from 6:00-7:30 and students need to be accompanied by an adult. We will have refreshments and lots of fun learning stations set-up around the HES gym and cafe. A huge thank you to Mrs. Knopp, Mrs. Langhofer, the HES PTO, and all of the HES staff/volunteers that are making a fun night of learning happen for our students!

HES third grade students worked with the K-State Research and Extension office to complete their "Bread in a Bag" curriculum this week! The students also used butter they made during our Kansas Day celebrations to put on their individual loaves of bread!
