Herington High School February Student of the Month
Adrian Harrison
Adrian is the daughter of Chardy and Tony Magnett and Ryan and Stephanie Harrison.
Adrian believes she was chosen because “I think I am reliable and I follow directions as best as I can. I like to have fun during class but I’m always respectful and try to help others when I can.”
Adrian is a sophomore at Herington, who involves herself in: Volleyball, Basketball, Track, Forensics, Scholars Bowl, FCCLA, FBLA, and S.A.L.T.
Mr. Hinkle believes Adrian received student of the month “because she is one of the best students to have in class. Not only is she engaged in her school work but she always puts a fun twist on her projects or assignments & truly enjoys her time here at HHS. Along with her exceptional school work, Adrian is just a charismatic student who knows no strangers and will always give a cheerful smile to anyone she meets. Adrian also represents HHS well in a variety of extracurriculars and represents HHS to the best of her ability every time.”
Congratulations, Adrian!

Students in Advanced Animal Science class were doing hands-on data gathering with the reactions of various animals today and how the nervous systems differ in different types of animals.
Wacky Wednesday was in full swing in Ms. Stephania's first grade class today! The students each colored a wacky picture underneath their desks! #GameOnRailers
HMS Student of the Month!!
The middle school staff members chose 7th grader, Christian Camp as the February Student of the Month. Christian participates in football, basketball, wrestling, vocal, and quiz bowl. Christian feels that he was chosen as the student of the month because he follows the Railway expectations of being kind, respectful, and responsible towards his peers, teachers, and extracurricular activities. Christian feels that he is kind to students who are not always kind to him because you should never be mean to anyone. Christian is the son of Kym and Matt Harper.
A couple of the HHS Ag Mechanics students are showing their recently completed toolboxes.
HES Families: We are sending home packets with each student to participate in our Herington Hearts fundraiser. We had a short assembly this morning providing an explanation of what the Herington Hearts organization is along with the prizes that the students can earn. The three students that raise the most money will have an opportunity to throw a pie in the face of an HES staff member during the March all school assembly as well. Participation in the fundraiser is optional and if you have any questions please call the office at 785-258-3234. #GameOnRailers

February11th @ Salina South
The team had a great time in Salina. Really large schools were present and gave the Railers an uphill climb. They didn’t get all they wanted to finals but still came in strong. Numbers were incredibly close. 4 events broke into finals with another 5 right below the cutoff. The team also finished 6th out of 22 teams. The following medaled:
#Brooklyn Schroeder & Aiden Souza-IDA-3rd
Adrian Harrison & Courtney Naylor-IDA-5th
Tucker Morris & Sophia Weber-IDA-6th
*Sophia Weber-Poetry-2nd
February 18th @ Sedgwick
The team brought their largest group to date. Strong rounds really started and students started getting into the groove of their pieces. Again, big schools were present and scores were close. The students have been improving tremendously since the first tournament. We are excited for what broke into finals and how close things are still becoming. The team ended up with 4th place out of 18 teams. The following medaled:
Sophia Weber & Jaiden Vogt-IDA-4th
Alyssa Price-Humorous Solo-3rd
*Sophia Weber-Impromptu-1st
Korey Meier-Impromptu-6th
Aidan Thibodeau-Informative-5th
Mallory Arnold-Oration-5th
#Morgan Magnett-Poetry-6th
February 25th @ Sacred Heart in Salina
This is the moment we’d been waiting for. This is the culmination of all the team’s hard work so far. Hours and hours of practices and we start seeing big results! We took 8 students and 13 events and broke in 6 events and qualified new ones for state! 3 events were REALLY close to being in finals. The biggest takeaway is the team ended with 3rd place out of 18 teams!! Beating bigger schools and ones with more events. But in the end quality beat quantity. And the team was only 8 points from 2nd place!! Coach Hirsch and Assistant Coach Rookstool could not be more prouder! “Today was a huge win for us and we are extremely excited to keep the momentum going. Keep practicing and seeing kids flourish in something they love!” The following medaled:
Aiden Souza & Courtney Naylor-IDA-5th
*Sophia Weber-Impromptu-1st
Aiden Souza-Humorous Solo-3rd
*Sophia Weber-Informative-2nd
Aidan Thibodeau-Informative-5th
*Sophia Weber-Oration-2nd
*Korey Meier-Prose-3rd
This season is just amazing! The following students are qualified for state champs: Sophia Weber in Oration, Poetry, Informative, and Impromptu; Korey Meier in Prose; Hanne McDermott in Prose. The following are qualified for state festival: Aiden Souza & Brooklyn Schroeder in IDA; Morgan Magnett in Poetry.
March 4th we have a WELL deserved break. Then will have a HUGE team for Clay Center on March 11th. Go Railers!!!
The Herington Railers Archery Team traveled to Clearwater today for a tournament. We shot very well. We ended up bringing home 9 out of 18 of the individual medals for the tournament. 8 of the 9 medal winners also set new personal best score in competition.
In the team competition, our middle school team took 2nd place, shooting a 2932 combined score, which is second best score we have ever shot as a team.
Congratulations to a great bunch of 4th thru 12th graders that represented their school & community in Clearwater, KS today.
Once again a big Congratulations goes out to the HHS Wrestling Team and Coaches! What an awesome season. #railerproud
