Congratulations to our Dickinson County Spelling Bee Champion, Kira Carver! And 1st Runner-up, Aiden Thibodeau! They won the top spots competing against 34 other spellers from Dickinson County, Wednesday, January 30 in Abilene. The competition heated up with both contestants battling against each other, starting in the 3rd round and finally ending in Round 20. Kira will head to the State Spelling Bee held in Wichita, March 9. If she is unable to attend, Aiden will go as her alternate. Also in the competition representing HMS were Eighth Grader Kahlen Mefford, Seventh Graders, Sophia Weber, and Ciara Smith, and Sixth Grader Nadiyya Sensemeier. Sponsor was Amy Coup, HMS Language Arts teacher.

Want to increase your ACT score? There will be an ACT test prep class Monday, Feb 11 8:30am-1:14 pm at the Herington High School. This class includes practical and relevant information on how to increase your ACT score. It show you how to control the test and not let it control you! This is not a practice test!

McKenzie Shippy is the daughter of Brian and Carrie Shippy.
McKenzie thinks that she was selected due to the fact that she is a vocal leader in the school, involved in the classroom and always willing to help others.
Throughout high school, she has participated in FBLA, HOSA, NHS, FCCLA,TreeHuggers, Mentor Program, Student Council
Cheerleading, Volleyball, Basketball,and Track.
Mrs. Beye believes that McKenzie was selected
because she is involved in a variety of school activities. She serves as a leader not only on the sports field but also in the classroom and in her organizations. McKenzie presents herself with opportunities to better herself everyday. That will take her far in her future endeavors.

Mrs. Mortensen's class celebrated Kansas's 158th birthday Tuesday!! They played Kansas jeopardy using an interactive lesson from Greenbush. They also ate Kansas-shaped graham crackers with frosting. The crackers had chocolate chips representing Herington, Topeka, and Wichita. #growinglearners
