Herington's High School Choir performed in the Wheat State League Choral Festival, held at Central Christian College in McPherson.
Fall Activities Banquet and Pancake Feed
Tonight at the community building is the fall activities banquet and pancake feed. Pancake feed will begin at 5:30 followed by the high school fall awards at 7:00. See you there.
Herington Schools would like to thank all Veterans for their service to this great country today for Veterans Day.
The High School Student Council created a unique opportunity for the high school students this morning. Instead of having a normal assembly where students get talked at, students were able to be talked with by Veterans.
There were 11 veterans who were set up at tables. Students were free to move around the gym to learn about our community veterans and their lives.
Students gave very high compliments on the event being very personal and most wished there was more time. The veterans were pleased with how respectful the students were when listening.
This was a great opportunity for students to connect with community members and to learn communication skills. STUCO would like to thank all Veterans who came out today. They will be doing something like this again next year because of the success of this year!
Attention Senior Parents: senior yearbook ads are due next week. Forms were sent home with the students however, there are extra in the office if needed. All information is also in the pictures below.
Fourth grade students took part in a game of scooter hockey. There is no doubt the students are enjoying all the new games and activities they are learning in PE this year! #beingallwecanbe
Mrs. Beames’ fifth grade students worked together using their knowledge of the rock cycle and the three types of rocks to break out of their own version of an escape room! #beingallwecanbe
The powder puff football and iron man volleyball games have been moved to this Saturday (11/9) from 6-8p.m. We will do volleyball first in the elementary gym.
HES Families: We hope that you will continue to collect the Box Tops for Education! The funds generated from these are extremely beneficial for the HES PTO group. Recently, Box Tops for Education has transitioned to a digital platform. Please download the Box Tops for Education application, scan your receipts, and earn cash for HES! HES Families: Please join us for our PTO sponsored BINGO night in the HES cafe on Thursday, November 14th. We will serve a light hot dog meal from 5:30-6:00 (while supplies last) and BINGO will begin at 6:00. BINGO cards can be purchased for $1 a piece and proceeds will go to the HES PTO. Come out for some fun and a chance to win some great prizes!
October Middle School Student of the Month
The middle school staff members chose 7th grader, Mason Mortensen, as the October Student of the Month. Mason participates in band, football, basketball, track, baseball, and swim team. Mason believes that he was chosen as the student of the month because even though he is a quiet student in class, he works hard to help others and gets his work done. Mason also feels that he is respectful to his teachers and coaches.
Mason is the son of Amy and Jeff Mortensen.
October Student High School Student of the Month
Sarah Biehler is the daughter of Donalyn and Troy Biehler.
Sarah thinks that she was selected because of her hard work, and the drive to stay involved. She always does her best to set a good example for people around her, and stay focused on the goals she sets for herself.
As a Junior, Sarah has been involved in FCCLA, FBLA, NHS, STUCO, Cheer, Drama Club, and is currently her class secretary.
When asked, Mrs. Gonzolas said, “I feel Sarah is a great pick for Student of the Month because of her successes in and out of the classroom. In my class she is always a leader the other students can rely on for assistance. Out of the classroom, Sarah involves herself in many organizations showing her desire to be active in school and in the community."
Congratulations, Sarah! You deserve this honor.
Lawson Mueller and Gene Hanson were honored this evening during the Kansas Honor Scholars Banquet at Salina Central High School. Congratulations!!
Middle School Awards Assembly will be held today at 2:30 in the Middle School Gym.

Fourth graders explored Dio De Los Muertos, Day of the Dead, and the Mexican holiday and culture at the end of October. Students read about the holiday, enjoyed making calavera masks, ate treats, and watched the video Coco. #beingallwecanbe

HES Families: We are starting our Hoops for Herington Hearts fundraiser and will continue this through November 15th. We are inviting parents/families to come shoot hoops and participate in other basketball related activities on 11/22 (more info to come).
