Carol Stilwell was honored for her 19-year volleyball coaching career following the Herington Middle School volleyball games at White City last Thursday evening. Twenty years ago, Stilwell coached the White City High volleyball team to win its first ever sub-state championship. That year, as well as in 2003, the Lady Huskies advanced to the state tournament. The Lady Huskies earned trips to sub-state in 1996, 2002, 2003 and 2004. Stilwell began her coaching career at WCHS in 1990, taking a break after the 1996 season. She returned as the WCHS coach for the 2001-2004 seasons. She changed gears in 2015, taking charge of Herington Middle School’s volleyball team, which she continues to coach. Coach Stilwell was particularly honored for her “inspirational leadership and lasting impact on hundreds of young women over the years.” Following the recognition ceremony, several team members from 20 year ago joined the current HMS squad for a group photo. - Photo and article provided by Susan Mueller
