The juniors (Class of 2027) will be taking the ACT at Herington High School on Tuesday February 24th. Testing will begin in the HS gym at 8am. ACT does not allow late admittance if test booklets have been handed out. It is important that students are on time. They will need to have a calculator, no food or drinks are allowed in the testing room. If a parent has opted their student out, testing will be finished by noon and the student can arrive at that time. If a parent plans to opt out their student, Mr. Pritchard should be contacted at 785-258-2261 as soon as possible.

Students from the HMS and HHS Youth Leadership in Kansas (YLinK) organization attended the Youth Mental Health Advocacy Day at the State Capitol in Topeka. The day included a guest speaker, breakout sessions, visits with State representatives, and a tour of the Capitol building. The purpose of the Youth Mental Health Advocacy Day is to bring YLinK chapters together from across the state and to relay information to our state representatives about the importance and the need for Youth Mental Health support.

Attention H.E.S. Book Blaster families! We have only a few days left! Now is the time to contribute through the invitation from your favorite student or to make a school-wide contribution: https://app.booksarefun.com/HeringtonES67449/donations/new/k4o9enhl. You have until Sunday night to contribute.
Thank you to everyone in our community and beyond that have contributed to our Book Blast event! Your support will help students take home as many books as possible, up to 10 each. In our quest to promote literacy and reading, every new book is like gold to be treasured! It’s not too late to complete your Treasure Map, earn your prizes, and help your child’s teacher earn a shopping spree to purchase books and supplies for the classroom! When 60% of the classroom students register and invite 10+ friends and family members, that teacher will earn a $100 shopping spree. If 90% of the classroom invites 10+ friends and family members, the teacher will earn a $200 shopping spree. Visit https://app.booksarefun.com/HeringtonES67449 to participate!

The 3rd grade classes participated in the Bread in a Bag activity through the K-State Research and Extension Office. Jill Martinson, Extension Agent led students through steps to make bread. Students learned about milling flour, seeing changes in the dough after adding yeast, and kneading and forming their own loaf. Students ate their homemade bread with butter they made on Kansas Day! Thank you to Susan Mueller and Paula Morgan for helping our students!

Flat Stanley Part 2: Here are the rest of the pictures from our Flat Stanley presentations today!
about 1 month ago, Amy Mortensen
Mrs. Mortensen's third grade reading MTSS group presented their Flat Stanley Projects today. Flat Stanley is a character in a book by Jeff Brown who gets flattened when a bulletin board falls on him. He wants to visit his friend in California, but traveling is expensive so his parents mail him. Third graders colored their own "flat people" and sent them to friends and family in different parts of the United States. While the "flat people" were visiting, students researched the state their "flat person" went to and created a slide show on their computers with the information they found Then when the "flat people" came back, the students took the information that was sent back and created posters or folders with the information. Today they presented their research to other students and teachers in the building. Not only did they learn to research and use technology to present, they also learned to write letters and how to stand in front of people to present. It was a great learning experience! There will be a part two to this post so that I can share everyone's picture!
