Governor Laura Kelly's announcement regarding school reopening this fall. At 3 p.m. today, Governor Kelly hosted a press briefing in which she indicated an Executive order will be issued on Monday July 20th. This order is expected to delay the start of school until at least September 9th, among other things. USD 487 administration and the Board of Education will hold a discussion around this topic and what it means for our students/patrons during our next school Board meeting Monday July 20th.

Physical Opportunity

USD 487 coaching staff would like to give a shoutout to our athletes for adjusting to what we need to this summer to continue to train and prepare for what we hope is normal soon. All athletes are doing a great job of attending weights and practices during this time. This quote in the picture fits us well and we talked about it this morning. Our kids are doing a great job of training through the time of drought (hardship) to be ready for the harvest. What great life lessons being learned right now and adjusted to by our kids. #railerproud

School Reopening Plans
While we still have a lot of work to do, the schools in Dickinson County have been working together, along with the Dickinson County Health Department on a plan to re-open the schools within Dickinson County. We are planning on resuming in person operations in August including a plan to have the students in the buildings as scheduled. In person, virtual, and/or blended learning opportunities may be available to students as plans are developed
We are currently evaluating our processes, procedures, policies and facilities to see what adjustments we need to make to provide a safe environment for our students, teachers, staff and parents. Please understand that we are still waiting on guidelines from the Kansas State Department of Education before we can finalize our plans. This information will not be available until mid-July. Once these guidelines are released, we will have a better understanding of the expectations from the Kansas Board of Education and we will finalize our plans.
